Double Bronze
Co
ngratulations to the Scouts who won 3rd place in the Hardie Webster camping competition. The winners were the 32nd A, with the 73rd in 2nd place. Ten scouts from Inverkip took part in the competition - Patrol A with 6 boys, and 4 boys in Patrol B. Comments from District Leaders over the weekend have been full of praise highlighting the Inverkip Patrols' sense of fun mixed with determination to do well (4.30 start in the morning guys?). The training Patrol B took a great many compliments for such a young team with short numbers - "an example to the District" was one comment. Patrol A were seen as a front runner from as early as Friday night. The 2 Scout patrols are pictured here - for some snaps of Patrol A's campsite visit the gallery.

Carrie Awarded the Silver Acorn
Friday 22nd JuneScottish Commissioner Eleanor Lyall paid a surprise visit to Greenock District on Friday to award Carrie Gibson with the Silver Acorn - one of the Scout Movements highest awards - for 'specially distinguished service' following her successful expedition to the summit of Mount Everest. During her speech, Eleanor mentioned that she had met Carrie earlier that day at the King and Queen Scout Garden party at Holyrood, and nearly accidentally let slip that she would be coming through to Greenock that evening. The Silver Acorn is normally reserved for those who have served the Scouts for more than 20 years (Carrie has 17 years service with Inverkip), and this is 'not the normal award season', but due to the extreme feat that Carrie has achieved and given that she is the first Scottish Scout ever to reach the summit of Everest, UK headquarters were very pleased to grant the award for exceptional achievement.
McLean Museum Exhibition Open
Friday 22nd June
Greenock District Scouts' exhibition in the McLean Museum is now open. The exhibition will run throughout the summer, closing early September. Inverkip have several features at the exhibition including our Trek Cart, an Everest display on Carrie, our Group history, and even a super-size poster of the Explorers with Jack and Victor of TV's Still Game. The exhibition is well worth a visit - and it's free as well. Look out for our Ship's bell which the troop used to open every troop night during the 30's and 40's.
